Workshop "Exploring the Internationalization of Transformative Journal Agreements"

This workshop explored key recommendations, recent developments, and international perspectives on transformative agreements. The agenda included keynote addresses, and the possibility to start an active exchange on internationally harmonized criteria for transformative agreements with big publishers. Space was provided for participants to present national and institutional efforts to exchange ideas and spark further discussion.

  • Keynote Address: "Standardisation and Flexibility in Transformative Agreements" by Hildegard Schäffler 

    • Abstract: Transformative agreements follow the same underlying principle of combining open access publishing and reading with the ultimate goal of open access transformation, but they tend to differ in detail. Drawing on examples and negotiation experience, the presentation will stress the importance and opportunities of standardisation, with a particular focus on the international level, but will also identify some of the limitations and the need for a degree of variation and flexibility.

    • Biography: Dr. Hildegard Schäffler is Head of the Department of Acquisition, Collection Development and Cataloging 2 at the Bavarian State Library in Munich. She is involved in various licensing and transformation contexts, including responsibility for the Bavarian Consortium and membership of the DEAL group. She is also chair of the German, Austrian, Swiss Consortia Organisation (GASCO) and co-chair of Forum 13+, the working group on transformational agreements beyond DEAL.
